Introduction

Often the particular and brilliant details of a landscape, for example a recurring brightly colored flower or tree or the growth of a particular plant in an unlikely place, remain more crisp and clear in our memory and afterwards can be described to others in more precise detail. The wider landscapes however, which are made up of these details, tend to be more vague in our memories and described in terms of dominant colors or light, or even a series of descriptive details within that wider landscape.

This series of photographs is an exploration of how we perceive landscapes, both the details and wider views, and attempts to portray how this dichotomous perception remains in our memory. Taken from various locations in the US, Italy and Switzerland, these photographs present the details themselves, and the details in perspective of the wider landscape.
